AWHL is making some board changes in a whole lot of ways. We're now phasing in staggered terms to help give our league some much-needed continuity. This year, we'll be electing 3 members to serve on the board for 3-year terms. Want to be a part of the team that helps our league thrive ?
Here's what's involved:
The board is responsible for all aspects of the League's operation including budgeting, scheduling ice and refs, registration, member communications and making and enforcing rules. Board Members have a vital role in keeping AWHL healthy by creating policies based on player feedback.
Generally, the board meets once a month for 1 to 2 hours. Members should count on devoting another 2 to 8 hours a month depending on the responsibilities they take on and, of course, depending on the time of year. Each board determines when and where they meet. The current board meets on the second Monday of most months. Members often connect by phone or other online means when they're unable to attend in person.
Before the Season Begins (May-August)
This is the busiest time for the board. The annual budget is set to determine team fees, ice requests and insurance certificates are sent, teams and players are registered and rostered, and games are scheduled. A Discover Hockey Clinic may be organized if Recreational/Development team registration is low.
During the Season (September-March)
The board pays monthly bills, deals with any disciplinary issues, maintains the web site, communicates with members and schedules special events such as clinics, tournament and the banquet/annual membership meeting.
If you can make this commitment, follow the link below to fill in the Candidate Application online. The deadline to get on the ballot has been EXTENDED to Midnight MARCH 25.
